Physical Education - PE

Physical Education

St Clement’s CEP PE curriculum inspires and challenges pupils through its range of focus areas.  It encourages children to develop all areas of their physical education, including relaxation and Mindfulness. Using the PE Hub framework and Swim England UK guidance to ensure a varied and full PE curriculum. Developing both resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity within sports and ensuring an inclusive curriculum that encourages and enthuses all children to be involved.  St Clement’s CEP follows the ethos of  ‘For nothing will be impossible with God.’ Luke 1:37 . The PE curriculum encourages all children to have access to a range of sports to find and develop their God- given talents, supporting children to achieve their dreams and to flourish during their time at primary school.

"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." – Martin Luther King Jr.

St Clement’s CEP PE curriculum supports pupils to meet the requirements of the Foundation Stage Profile and the National Curriculum end of key stage attainment targets. We support every child to explore, experience and participate in Physical Education, and to make links to other areas of the curriculum to further develop their understanding. They express their growing substantive knowledge through the demonstration of their disciplinary knowledge by explaining the scientific biological impact of sports of the body and reason for warming up and cooling down, as well as executing the rules of a range of sports, gymnastics and dance techniques. We see PE as a means of evolving metacognitive skills and schemas about the way our bodies work and the impact of a healthy lifestyle.

“I believe in myself.” – Muhammad Ali.

The progressive curriculum develops aspects of PE over time. Each unit consists of a 6-session sequence of learning experiences which offer supportive progression, with subject specific language at the heart of each experience. This enriches knowledge about PE, and encourages knowledge through experiential learning. The supportive progression develops with the children as they travel through the school. The children are exposed to the knowledge of past and present sporting personalities from a range of differing sports.  Don't let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It's your place in the world; it's your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.
