Mental Health and Wellbeing
We recognise that some children have extra emotional and social needs that need to be developed and nurtured. We also recognise and are completing training on trauma informed practice. We recognise many of our pupils may need to access additional provision for SEMH (Social, emotional and Mental Health) for example, for bereavement, self-esteem, trauma and social difficulties. All classes follow a structured PSHE curriculum to support this development. However, for those children who need additional support our offer includes:
- Drawing and Talking Therapy
- Lunch time and play time support
- Communication groups
- Friendship and/or Social Skills Groups
- Lego therapy sessions
- Access external agencies and professionals and follow their advice:
- o Social Worker
- o Early Help
- o Young Carer
- o School Health
- o Specialist Teaching and Learning Service (STLS)
- o Provision Evaluation Officer Support (PEO)
- o Educational Psychologist
- Speech and Language Therapy
- ELSA trained staff (group and 1-1 sessions)
- Play Therapy
- Emotional Wellbeing Check Ins
- Social Stories
The school benefits from a Behaviour Policy with clear rewards and sanctions and in each class the same rules are applied. In respect of Anti Bullying, there is a policy in place that has been drawn up with staff and pupils and is accessible to parents.
We fully understand that behaviour is a form of communication and some children may need additional support with behavioural needs in school. We are able to produce Pastoral Support Plans and individualised behaviour strategies to support pupils with SEND needs.
